Welcome to our great school! And a great school it is, not because of the recognition it receives but because the children at the school achieve great things.

I am privileged to be the Headteacher of a school which has an extraordinary staff team who work seamlessly with massively committed parents. The very high standards we achieve in all areas emerge very naturally from this effective partnership.

At Dean Gibson, we celebrate the uniqueness of each child in our care. As a staff we know your children have the right to have aspirations and to know they are precious in the eyes of God. In partnership with you we model the Gospel values of care, compassion and diligence on which our enterprise is based. In short, we encourage our children to have what Basil Hume called “a zest for living life to the full”.

Sarah Tansey, Headteacher

We are a school for Catholic and non-Catholic children, welcoming all faiths and denominations. We believe that faith is “lived” and not just taught, a belief reinforced by our parish Priest, Father Hugh, who spends a great deal of time with us in school.

Our curriculum is broad and balanced and is delivered by an experienced staff to a high level. As well as gaining language, mathematical and scientific skills your child will build confidence, self-reliance and develop the ability to articulate feelings and ideas.

Our School Mission Statement

Guided by the Holy Spirit, we listen, learn and care.

Despite the distance of Covid-19 measures, we have felt very much valued and involved this term.

The plans that leaders have put in place reflect leaders’ ambitions for pupils to achieve well. Staff are experts in the subjects they teach. They help pupils build a secure understanding by building on their previous learning.
— OFSTED, FEBRUARY 2020

In February 2020, Dean Gibson underwent an Ofsted Inspection, where they noted that:

“Pupils’ behaviour is exemplary. In the early years, children listen carefully to adults. They follow instructions quickly. In lessons, pupils are keen to do their best. They become resilient learners who learn from their mistakes”.

“Staff teach pupils that they are special. Staff nurture, develop and celebrate pupils’ talents. Staff provide a wide range of support to ensure that pupils achieve well.”

“Pupils, staff, parents and carers agree that this is a happy and caring school. The pupils I spoke with told me they enjoy school. They described their teacher as friendly, supportive and fun.”

We’re so proud of all our pupils and the hard work they put into their education, along with the staff that deliver a safe and nurturing environment. If you would like to discuss your child’s education, you’re more than welcome to meet with either the Headteacher, Mrs Tansey or the Head of School, Mrs Ritchie. Please ring ahead of time to make sure someone is available to talk to you.
