Settling in at school

By James Duffin, 10 October 2013 – 0 comment

What a busy few weeks we have had in Reception class! The staff have been overwhelmed at how quickly the children have settled. I don’t think there has ever been a Reception class that has got into the routine of school as well, even down to eating their lunch at lunch time and sitting in assemblies.

Over the past few weeks the children have been working on their topic of ‘Once Upon a Time’. We have spent time planning this with the children and they had some super ideas. We have looked at lots of fairy tales, from Cinderella to Jack and the Beanstalk. The children have enjoyed role playing these stories and using their faces and voices to show different emotions!

One of the ideas the children came up with was to make dragons. The children planned their dragon before making it and decided what special power it might have. We then helped the children make their dragon… I think we got through about 3 bags of junk modelling materials but the finished results are amazing!

We are just beginning to rehearse our song for the Harvest festival which will be a lovely celebration of the end of the children’s first half term at school.
