Dean Gibson in Bloom!

We had a really busy year in the school garden last year - developing our very own allotment and wildlife garden, creating a colourful bed of perennials and shrubs at the front of the school building, planting our class planters with flowers and vegetables, and digging decorative beds to house the hundreds of amazing begonias kindly donated by the Hogg family...

Oh, and getting ready for the judges' visits for the Kendal and Cumbria in Bloom competitions. So you can imagine how pleased we all were to hear that we had done really well in both competitions.

Staff, parents, and our gardening club children were invited to the Kendal in Bloom reception at the Town Hall in August, where they heard the news that we had secured 2nd place in the school category - hooray. Although, we were nearly as pleased with the honorary award of 'best cabbage' given to us on judging day by one of the judges who came to review our children's hard work!

Then came more good news as we secured the accolade of 'thriving garden' from Cumbria in Bloom. We were the only primary school in town to be placed in this top category so we're feeling very pleased!

And now we're all on tenterhooks as we await a special Cumbria in Bloom presentation by the Mayor in October - it's very exciting as we aren't allowed to know which award we are to receive. We'll keep you posted.

So, a huge well done to all of our talented gardening club children - we have ace diggers, expert worm hunters, green fingered planters, maths geniuses laying out geometric designs, and imaginative role players who create fairy hills; what a treat it is for us adults to be involved with you all.
